Amount:  Approximately $1,000 annually

Eligibility:  Available to students majoring in advertising (rising junior or senior) who demonstrates high potential and exceptional promise as an advertising professional; must have a “B” average

Delchamps endowed Scholarship for Advertising and Public Relations

Eligibility:  Outstanding full-time students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degree in advertising or public relations priority to student involved in activities of Seventh District, American Advertising Federation (AL, GA, LA, MS, TN); including resumé

Myatt Harvill Intermark Endowed Memorial Scholarship in the College of Communication

Amount:  Approximately $1,000

Availability:  Two or more each year

Eligibility:  Outstanding full-time student pursuing undergraduate degree in advertising; recipient will have an opportunity to apply for an internship with Intermark Group Inc.

Melson Roche Leadership Scholarship Award in Advertising and Public Relations

Amount:  A minimum of  $1,000

Availability:  One each year

Eligibility:  Outstanding full-time out-of-state freshmen pursuing degrees in advertising or public relations who have GPAs of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale and ACT scores of 25 or higher; must submit a brief, one- to two-page, double spaced essay demonstrating leadership skills; include a resumé

 

John W. Felton Public Relations Endowed Scholarship

Amount:  Minimum of  $1,000 annually

Availability:  One or two each year

Eligibility:  Available to students majoring in public relations (rising junior or senor level) who demonstrate high potential and exceptional promise as a public relations professional; applicant must be a member of UA student chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSSA)

Tuscaloosa Advertising Federation Scholarship

Amount:  Approximately $500 to $1,000 annually; nonrenewable

Eligibility:    Advertising major enrolled full-time; must be an active Advertising Federation member and a student from Seventh District Advertising Federation (AL, GA, LA, MS, TN); include a resumé

The Tuscaloosa News Jamie Tucker Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Amount:  Minimum of  $2,500

Availability:  One each year

Eligibility:  Full-time undergraduate student with junior standing who intends to pursue a degree in advertising, has a 3.0 or higher GPA, and has a desire for an advertising sales career; priority given to students from the Tuscaloosa area or surrounding counties who demonstrate financial need; the chosen applicant will have first opportunity at a paid summer internship in The Tuscaloosa News advertising department; include a resumé

 

Marilyn E. Mancini Endowed Scholarship in Advertising

Amount:  Minimum of $1,000

Availability:  One or more each year

Eligibility:  Outstanding full-time student pursuing an undergraduate degree in advertising at the University of Alabama with a 3.5 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale and who demonstrate exceptional promise and dedication as advertising professionals

Eligibility:  Priority is given to a full-time student graduating from Enterprise (Alabama) High School and/or Enterprise (Alabama) State Junior College who intends to pursue a degree in communication studies; secondary consideration given to students enrolled in the College of Communication and Information Sciences intending to pursue a degree in communication studies

 

W. T. Goodloe Rutland Endowed Scholarship

Amount:  $1,500 annually

Availability:  Several annually

Eligibility:  Priority to full-time freshman student with demonstrated potential to master the arts of debate, discussion and persuasion; academic and leadership records, test scores, and two letters of recommendation and an application letter that indicate an interest in the study of human communication

 Springford Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Amount:  Approximately $1,200 annually

Availability:  One each year

Eligibility:  Priority of consideration is given to full-time undergraduate students majoring in communication studies in

the College of Communication and Information Sciences who graduated from a high school in Crenshaw, Pike, Coffee, or Geneva Counties in Alabama.  Second priority of consideration is given to other full-time undergraduate students majoring in communications studies in the College of Communication and Information Sciences who graduated from any high school in Alabama


JOURNALISM

H.M. Ayers endowed Scholarship in Creative Journalism

Amount:  Approximately $1,500 annually

Availability:  One each year

Eligibility:  Available to journalism students who are specializing in creative journalism; priority to advanced undergraduates and exceptional graduate students; secondary consideration given to qualified students in the department

of journalism

Alan L. Bennett Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Journalism

Amount:  Minimum $2,500 annually

Availability:  One each year

Eligibility:  Available to students majoring in print journalism (rising juniors or seniors) with demonstrated leadership

and writing skills to those interested in sports writing; must have “B”

Benita Doroshea Newton Endowed Scholarship

Amount:  Approximately $500 per year

Availability:  One each year

Eligibility:  Full-time journalism student to use to purchase supplies for students whose enrollment would enhance the diversity of the Department of Journalism.

 

Boone Newspaper Group Scholarship Fund

Amount:  In-state tuition for two semesters

Availability:  One each year

Eligibility:  Outstanding rising junior who intends to pursue a career in print journalism.  GPA of 3.0.  Priority to students who demonstrate financial need.

Buford Boone Memorial Endowed Journalism Scholarship

Amount:  Approximately $1,900 annually

Availability:  Two or three each year

Eligibility:  Outstanding undergraduate student who intends to pursue a career in print journalism.  GPA of 3.0.  Priority to students who demonstrate financial need.

 

Boone Memorial Arts & Sciences/Journalism Scholarship

Eligibility:  To an advanced undergraduate journalism student

 

The James B. Boone, Jr., Endowed Scholarship

Amount:  Approximately $1,000 annually

Availability:  Each year

Eligibility:  Priority of consideration shall be given to full-time undergraduate students who are majoring in print journalism within the College of Communication and Information Sciences and who demonstrate finanancial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.

 

The Buford Boone Memorial Scholarship Fund (Non-Endowed)

Amount: 4 annual full in-state tuition

Availability:  1 time award to rising junior Journalism majors.

Eligibility:  Priority to students who demonstrate financial need, not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.  Applicants must demonstrate the high standards in leadership in Journalism

Frances and Caroll Kilpatrick Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Journalism

Amount:  $1,000 annually

John S. and James L. Knight Minority Scholarship

Amount: Approximately $1,000 annually

Availability:  One or two each year

Eligibility:  Outstanding minority student majoring in journalism; full-time freshman through junior

Mobile Register Endowed Business Journalism Scholarship/Fellowship

Amount: Approximately $1,500 annually for undergraduate minority students from South Alabama

Availability:  Minimum of two undergraduates each year

Eligibility:  Outstanding junior or rising junior student planning to pursue a career in business journalism; declared major in Journalism and approved minor in commerce and business administration

Shelton Prince Jr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Amount: Approximately $2,000 annually

Availability:  One or more each year

Eligibility:  Outstanding full-time undergraduate planning to pursue a career in communication, preferably in the newspaper business.  Student should demonstrate financial need, but not necessarily as defined in federal guidelines

 

Charles W. Scarritt Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Amount: Approximately $500 annually

Availability:  One each year

Eligibility:  Outstanding rising senior or rising junior who intends to pursue a career in the newspaper business

Alf Van Hoose Endowed Journalism Scholarship

Amount: $1,000 annually

Availability:  Two each year

Eligibility:  Outstanding full-time student to pursue a career in journalism, priority entering freshman students

Carmage and Martha Ann Walls Endowed Scholarship in Print Journalism

Amount: Minimum $2,500 annually

Availability:  Minimum of four undergraduate awards each year

Eligibility:  Priority given to students from communities served by Southern Newspapers Inc. who intend to pursue a degree in print journalism

J.E. Lisby Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Amount:  Approximately $1,500 annually

Availability:  One each year

Eligibility:  Priority of consideration is given to full-time undergraduate students majoring in journalism in the College of Communication & Information Sciences.  Recipients are selected on the basis of scholarship and writing skills, with

preference being given to students interested in sports writing.  Recipients must possess a minimum grade average of “B.”

Bailey Thomson Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Journalism

Amount:  Approximately $1,000 annually

Availability:  One each year

Eligibility:  Priority of consideration is given to full-time undergraduate students majoring in journalism in the College of Communication & Information Sciences.  Each recipient must be majoring in journalism, possess a minimum grade average of “B,” show promise as a writer, and possess the qualities of excellence and citizen involvement exemplified by Dr. Thomson

Eligibility: Available for students enrolled in telecommunications and film who show exceptional promise as broadcast professionals

Keih and Turi Ann Jackson Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Telecommunication and Film

Carol and Clyde Price Family Endowed Scholarship

Amount: Approximately $1,200 per semester

Availability: One each year

Eligibility: Awarded to an entering freshman pursuing a degree in broadcasting, with first priority to a student seeking a degree in radio broadcasting

WBMG-TV Endowed Scholarship

Amount: Approximately $500

Availability: One each year

Eligibility: Full-time telecommunication major (entering freshman through junior); priority to minority students

 

Pearle and Julius Talton Scholarship

Amount:  Three $5,000 awards annually

Availability:  Each year

Eligibility:  Priority of consideration shall be given to students enrolled full-time in the Department of Telecommunication and Film who are studying either radio or television, with preference to be given to those interested in pursuing a career in radio.  Qualified applicants shall be residents of Alabama, with preference given to applicants from Dallas County or other central Alabama countries, who possess a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale in their major and who demostrate financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.  Recepients shall be known as Talton Scholars
