Under Dr. Thompson's direction the Individual Events Team has won the following during the past twenty-three years (1980-Fall 2003):

55 national championships in individual events

These awards were earned at the Delta Sigma Rho-Tau Kappa Alpha Nationals (DSR-TKA) and the American Forensic Association National Individual Events Tournaments (AFA-NIET). The team has placed in the top twenty schools 17 times out of this twenty-three year period at the AFA-NIET, and placed in the top 5 schools 21 times out of the past twenty-three years at DSR-TKA. These accomplishments have been achieved with an average of 12 to 15 students traveling and competing each year.
