Tisch Student Services, located in 297 Phifer Hall, is where you can find timely information related to job and internship hunting strategies, internships and permanent employment opportunities. It doesn’t matter if you’re a first semester freshmen or an alum, when you need advice or information about jobs, internships and graduate school, there are several people you can talk to:
Mr. Jim Oakley, Internship and Placement Director, can help you with job and internship searches, career planning and letter of application and resume critiques. With more than 35 years in the newspaper industry, Mr. Oakley can give you valuable information about the journalism field. Dr. Caryl Cooper, Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Studies, coordinates the career development programs for C&IS. Dr. Cooper has more than 13 years experience working in advertising agencies in New York City and broadcast sales in St. Louis, MO. She is more than willing to share her knowledge of the field with you. Dr. Cooper received her bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting and Film from Boston University and her master’s and doctorate degrees in journalism from The Missouri School of Journalism. Tasha Smith joined the UA Career Center in Summer 2006 and works primarily with the College of Communication and Information Sciences and the majors of Art and English in the College of Arts and Sciences. Tasha earned her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Master of Arts in Communication Studies from The University of Alabama. Prior to joining the UA staff, Tasha worked as with Liberty Mutual Group.
