Professional Experience:

Marie Parsons joined the journalism faculty at UA in 1983 as a graduate teaching assistant and retired in 2002 as a full-time instructor and coordinator of academic advising. She returned in May 2007 to resume management of Alabama Scholastic Press Association.

During her active tenure, Parsons coordinated high school outreach for 10 years and founded the Minority Journalism Workshop, a program she served for 15 years.

She has worked as a reporter for newspapers in Iowa, Illinois, and in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham.

In retirement, she has served as a tutor for athletes and for international students studying English.
