Dear New Student:

Welcome to the College of Communication & Information Sciences. Though we are one of the largest communication colleges in the nation, I want you to quickly feel at home in Phifer Hall.

Over the past quarter century, the College has become one of the nation's leading and most complete educational programs in the various fields of communication. Since its creation in 1973, enrollment has grown from 275 to 1,900 students majoring in Advertising, Public Relations, Telecommunication and Film, Journalism and Communication Studies at the bachelor's and master's level; in Library Studies at the master's level; and in Communication at the Ph.D. level. We rank in the top ten in size and consistently rank among the best schools of our kind in the world.

Our faculty is one of the best in the nation. All tenured members enjoy national reputations and some have acquired international recognition in their specialties. Our facilities for teaching and research, for broadcast, graphics, print, communication performance and new technology education and training are among the best in the nation. Reese Phifer Hall has undergone two major renovations and overall capital investment in the College runs in the many millions, giving our students the opportunity to learn in one of the finest facilities in America.

Our students are second to none, consistently winning national honors in debate and individual speaking events and in writing and broadcasting. We take great pride in our faculty, staff and facilities. We know that you will do your part to maintain our legacy of excellence.
