Awards are presented jointly by the College
of Communication and the Capstone Communication Society.
Nominations for the awards are solicited through regional meetings,
the Communicator and in other ways. Nominations must be in writing
by February 1 of the year of the award and be accompanied by a brief
statement of the reasons for the honor.
Outstanding Alumnus/a in Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations,
Telecommunication and Film, and Communication Studies
Frequency and Number: Annually, one in each area.
Method of Selection: A committee of the appropriate
departmental faculty and at least one alumni selected by the board
will review nominations. The appropriate committee presents its
recommendation to the CCS board, along with supporting information.
Requirements: Winners must be a graduate of University
in appropriate major or minor and have achieved sustained professional
distinction in communication or a related field over a period of
years. Occasionally a brief, exceptional record, such as the winning
of a national award (Peabody, Pulitzer) will be sufficient achievement.
Distinguished Achievement Award
Requirements: Unusual sustained professional achievement
in a communication or related field. Distinguished contribution
to the art/science of communication through a lifetime of work,
or an unusual brief effort resulting in a national award, such as
a Peabody or Pulitzer. University of Alabama affiliation is not
required.
Frequency and Number: From none to two annually.
Method: CCS Awards Committee solicits nominations
and submits recommendation and supporting information to CCS Board.
Lifetime Honorary Alumni
Requirements: For exceptional loyalty and service
to, participation in and support of programs and principles of the
College of Communication. For persons not statutory alumni (majors
or minors) of the college but closely identified with the college.
Frequency and Number: Indefinite.
Method: CCS Awards Committee solicits nominations
and submits recommendation and supporting information to CCS Board. |
