Caryl Cooper holds a doctorate in Journalism (1996) from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. She earned her M.A. degree in Journalism at the University of Missouri (1993) and her B.S. is in Broadcasting and Film from Boston University (1976).
 
Dr. Cooper has an extensive background in the communication field. She spent six years working as a Media Planner/Buyer at several advertising agencies, including Doyle, Dane and Bernbach and Compton Advertising in New York City. She also worked at Advanswers and BHN, Inc. in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Cooper's professional background also includes seven years experience in media sales at Gannett-owned radio
stations KUSA/KSD, and CBS-TV affiliate KMOV-TV in St. Louis.
 
Her teaching responsibilities include Advertising Media, History of Mass Media, and Introduction to Mass Communication.
 
Dr. Cooper's primary research interest focuses on media history. Her specific interest concerns the development of the Black Press.
 
In addition to numerous convention presentations to organizations such as AJHA and AEJMC, Dr. Cooper has a published article in Media Management Review. She also has a book chapter about the history of public relations in a forthcoming book on media history.
